Physical Activity

"All children require 60mins of moderate-vigorous physical activity every day."
World Health Organisation, Global Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health (5-17 years old), 2011

In promoting the ethos of an Active School we promote inclusive physical activity throughout the school day. Activities include: The Daily Mile, Active Lines, Active School Week, Dance Breaks, etc. We try our best to stay active in all types of weather, so on Rainy Days, we do dance breaks or exercise breaks.

Active Break Every Day 11th November- 6th December 2019

The whole school was a buzz of physical activity for the four weeks as teachers and children took some extra active breaks both in the classroom and in the yard. These activities included from GoNoodle Dance Breaks, Bizzy Breaks and The Daily Mile!

The Daily Mile

Every class in St. Kevin’s N.S. have been participating in the Daily Mile. The aim of the programme is to increase physical activity during school. Each class will walk/jog/run for 15 minutes daily. We will be taking part in The Daily Mile Challenge in conjunction with Louth Sports Partnership. This will be for a period of three months.

Playground Leaders

5th and 6th class students have been trained as playground leaders and organise playground games in the yard every Wednesday at lunchtime. There are 3 zones in each yard. Every Wednesday there are 3 games and the classes rotate zones and get 10 minutes for each game. It has proved to be a huge success for both the children playing the games and the playground leaders from 5th/6th classes.
