In St. Kevin’s N.S. we work in partnership with others to promote a physically active school community. The most important partnership in the Active School Flag programme is with the pupils of the school. Our new Active School Committee were elected by their classmates. The committee is made up of children from each class in the school. Our school has an ASF notice board and each classroom has an ASF suggestion box. Our school also acknowledges physical activity and sporting success achieved during and outside of school hours through the use of our Well Done Wall.
Local Partnerships
We have great partnerships with many local sporting clubs, particularly St. Kevin’s GAA Club. They provide great support to our school in many ways and especially in terms of allowing us to use their facilities. We invite sports clubs, athletes and physical activity providers from the local community to talk to the children or to give taster sessions of their activity and we constantly try to raise awareness of the variety of ways in which people can be physically active. So far in the 2019/20 school year we have had Ciarán coaching GAA with 4 th, 5 th and 6 th Class and Jessica from Ardee Rugby Club has been teaching Tag Rugby to 2 nd & 3 rd Class and 5 th & 6 th Class. The Louth Ladies Junior All Ireland Champions visited our school with the West County Hotel Cup. The spoke to the children about the match and all the hard work they put in to their training throughout the year. The whole school really enjoyed the visit.
The Daily Mile
We are taking part in The Daily Mile Challenge in conjunction with Louth Sports Partnership. The aim of the programme is to increase physical activity during school. Each class will walk/jog/run for 15 minutes daily for a three month period. We are all looking forward to taking part!
Super Troopers Active School Homework
All classes will have active homework during the week. We will be following the Super Troopers pack and all activities are explained in detail at the back of the journal. We hope everyone has great fun taking part!
